On October 7, 2021, at about 2348 hours, Newark Police responded to the 100-block of East Main Street for a report of a robbery at an ATM machine.  Upon arrival, the officers contacted the female victim, who advised that she was withdrawing money from an ATM machine adjacent to the sidewalk.  As she walked back to her vehicle, she was approached by a male suspect who took the money from her hands.  She briefly fought with the suspect in an attempt to retain the money and the suspect ran away with the money.  A witness attempted to assist the victim fighting off the suspect.  The witness then followed the suspect and observed him flee the area in a vehicle.  The witness attempted to chase the suspect vehicle, but ultimately lost contact with the vehicle.

The suspect was described as a white male, bald, about 30 years of age, 5’9″ – 5’10” and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a white undershirt and dark pants.  The suspect was wearing a red face mask.  He fled in a 4-door passenger car.

The following is a joint release issued by the Newark Police Department and the University of Delaware Police Department:

On October 3, 2021, at 1954 hours, Newark Police received a report from two victims that they had been walking on Academy Street, south of East Delaware Ave, and were followed by a vehicle.  The vehicle pulled up next to the victims and the driver pointed a firearm at the victims while threatening to shoot them.  The victims fled the area and called Newark Police.

Shortly after the report to Newark Police, the University of Delaware Police Department received a report from a male victim that he was walking through the parking lot of Drake Hall on Academy Street, when he was shot with what was believed to be a BB gun.  The victim described the vehicle and suspect, which matched the suspect in the prior incident.  The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS, but did not require further medical treatment.

Based on video surveillance and witness statements, Quinn Annable, 20, of Newark, was identified as the suspect in these incidents.  Annable is a student at the University of Delaware.

On October 6, 2021, Annable was taken into custody at his off-campus residence without incident.  An air pistol that shoots metal pellets was recovered at that time.  He was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with:

• By Newark Police Department:
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Aggravated Menacing (2 counts)
• By University of Delaware Police Department:
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Assault Second Degree

Annable appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $20,000 cash bail.  Annable was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.  In addition to criminal charges, all UD students charged with crimes are immediately referred to the University’s Office of Student Conduct to face potential administrative sanctions.
