Traffic Alert Reminder – Winterfest and Reindeer Run

On Friday, December 5, 2025, the City of Newark’s Winterfest and the Special Olympics Delaware Reindeer Run will take place on Academy Street, south of East Main Street. Academy Street will be closed between East Main Street and East Delaware Avenue starting at 7:30 AM to allow for the raising of the Holiday Tree for the event. Employees and businesses will have access, however there will be no thru traffic. Academy Street between East Main Street and East Delaware Avenue will be closed entirely from 4:00 PM until approximately 9:00 PM for Winterfest and the Reindeer Run. Motorists may experience intermittent stoppages at some intersections in the area of South Chapel Street, East Park Place, Academy Street and the surrounding neighborhoods to allow runners & walkers to safely pass through the intersections during the Reindeer Run. Please drive safely and utilize caution in the area.
