Traffic Alert – Upcoming Delaware Avenue Road Closures

Beginning on Monday, December 15 and continuing to Friday, December 19, 2025, Delaware Avenue will have closures daily between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The Delaware Department of Transportation and the City of Newark will be working on milling and paving sections of both West Delaware Avenue, between Orchard Road and South College Avenue and East Delaware Avenue between Haines Street and South Chapel Street. These sections will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic. Expect heavier than usual traffic, delays, and seek alternate routes. The roadwork is weather dependent, and the scheduled closures may be modified. Please see the below detour details.

Detour Details:

West Delaware Avenue closure between Orchard Road and South College Avenue: Eastbound motorists from South Main Street will turn right onto West Park Place, then turn left onto South College Avenue, to access East Delaware Avenue. Eastbound motorists from West Main Street will continue onto South Main Street, then turn left onto Apple Road, then turn left onto West Park Place, then turn left onto South College Avenue, to access East Delaware Avenue.

East Delaware Avenue closure between Haines Street and South Chapel Street: Eastbound motorists will turn right onto Academy Street, then turn left onto East Park Place, then turn left onto South Chapel Street, to access East Delaware Avenue.
