Newark Man Arrested for Disregarding Officer’s Signal and Resisting Arrest

On February 19, 2025, a Newark Police officer observed a white Honda Accord being driven recklessly on South College Avenue. The vehicle was traveling well above the posted speed limit and was passing other vehicles dangerously, utilizing both the shoulder of the roadway and oncoming lanes of traffic.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver failed to stop and fled the area. The suspect continued to drive in a reckless manner and was involved in a minor hit-and-run collision that resulted in property damage.

Through investigative efforts, officers were able to identify the driver as Abraham Hernandez, 20, of Newark. A warrant was subsequently obtained for his arrest.

On February 27, 2025, members of the Newark Police Department located and arrested Hernandez at his residence without incident.

Hernandez has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • 18 Additional Traffic Violations

Hernandez was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #2, where his bail was set at $1,114 unsecured. He was released pending a future court appearance in the Court of Common Pleas.
