Wilmington Man Charged With Drug Offenses After Assaulting Officers

On September 26, 2023, at about 1928 hours, Newark Police responded to a restaurant in Newark Shopping Center, 230 East Main Street, to check on the welfare of a male who had entered the bathroom and did not leave.

When officers attempted to contact the male, the male attempted to force his way past the officers and began to struggle with the officers, damaging restaurant property during the struggle.  After attempts to use a Taser were ineffective on the male, the officers were able to take him into custody.

During the course of the struggle, two officers suffered physical injuries that did not require medical attention.

Once the male was taken into custody, cocaine was found in his possession.  The male was identified as Lee Warrington, 38, of Wilmington.

Warrington was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with

  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine
  • Assault Second Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer (2 counts)
  • Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Criminal Trespass Third Degree

Warrington appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $43,100 cash bail.  Warrington was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
