On 6/29/23 at 9:54am, Newark Officers responded to WSFS Bank, 201 Suburban Drive, Newark, for a reported fraud in progress. Officers learned that a subject had opened an account at the bank on 6/28/23 using an assumed identity and attempted to deposit a stolen check in the victim’s name. Bank employees subsequently determined the subject was not the person on the account and contacted police when he returned to the bank. Officers were initially unable to locate the suspect(s), however, detectives used surveillance footage from area businesses, police dashcam video and other investigative techniques to identify potential suspects. On 7/21/23 officers stopped two vehicles that contained three suspects: 21 year old Gavrelle Amankwa of Bear, DE; 20 year old Emmanuel Nkansah of Hyattsville, MD; and 24 year old Karim Nebie of Newark, DE. Evidence seized during a search of the suspects and their vehicles led to the arrest of all three suspects on the below listed charges.
All three subjects appeared before Justice of the Peace Court 2 and were subsequently released on their own recognizance pending further court proceedings.
