Maryland Man Arrested For Gun and Drug Charges

On July 19, 2023, at about 1300 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to a hotel in the 1100-block of South College Avenue to check on the welfare of an individual at the hotel.  Officers contacted Ryan McCool, 41, of Elkton, MD.  He initially provided officers with a false name.

McCool was found in possession of a knife, brass knuckles and a handgun.  In addition, he was found in possession of heroin, crack cocaine and a prescription medication not prescribed to him.  McCool is prohibited by law from possessing deadly weapons.

An investigation into his vehicle parked in the parking lot revealed that it was displaying a license plate recently reported stolen to New Castle County Police.

McCool was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (2 counts)
  • Criminal Impersonation
  • Receiving Stolen Property Under $1,500
  • Possession of Drugs (3 counts)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

McCool appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $28,100 cash bail.  McCool was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
