On May 7, 2023, at about 0615 hours, Newark Police responded to a report of a pedestrian stuck by a vehicle in the 1000-block of South College Avenue.
Arriving officers found a 60 year-old male pedestrian in the northbound lanes suffering from serious injuries. An investigation at the scene determined that the pedestrian attempted to cross from the west side of the roadway to the east side of the roadway. He was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu that was northbound in the right lane of South College Avenue. The pedestrian was not crossing in a marked crosswalk at the time. The Malibu and its operator remained at the scene for police arrival.
The pedestrian was treated at the scene by New Castle County EMS paramedics and was transported to an area hospital by an Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company ambulance. The pedestrian was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
The northbound lanes were closed for about 2.5 hours while the crash was investigated.
