On February 19, 2022 at approximately 11:31 P.M. the Newark Police Department responded to reports of a single vehicle crash on Christina Parkway (SR 4) approximately .06 miles east of the intersection with Elkton Road.
Investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Christina Parkway and left the right side of the roadway. When the vehicle left the roadway, it stuck several trees and went down an embankment. The vehicle rolled over as it went down the embankment. The vehicle then struck a City of Newark utility pole, causing the pole to break, before the vehicle came to rest.
The operator and lone occupant of the vehicle was extricated from the vehicle by AETNA Hose, Hook and Ladder and transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that they suffered in the crash.
The City of Newark Electric Department responded to the scene to stabilize the pole. The roadway was closed until approximately 2:50 A.M. when it was re-opened to traffic.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Cpl. M. Larue at (302) 366-7100 ext. 3447 or mlarue@newark.de.us. Additional methods for providing information to the Newark Police Department can be found on our tips page.
