Sixth Annual National Night Out – Tuesday August 3rd

After its cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our sixth annual National Night Out will be held on Tuesday August 3, 2021 from 6 pm – 8 pm on East Main Street in Newark.

To allow for social distancing, this event will utilize both East Main Street and Academy Street and will be held in conjunction with a Main Street Alfresco dining event.  Come meet first responders and then eat a meal at a local Newark restaurant.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. Together, we are making that happen.

From 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, neighbors throughout Newark and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement.

The event provides a chance for the public to meet and interact with local first responders and to learn about what they do on a daily basis. Agencies will be showcasing some of their equipment and specialized units.

The following agencies will be attending:

  • Newark Police Department
  • University of Delaware Police Department
  • Delaware Natural Resources Police
  • Delaware Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement (DATE)
  • Delaware Department of Correction Probation & Parole
  • Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company
  • University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit

The following events are scheduled to take place throughout the night:

  • Newark PD K9 Unit demonstration
  • DATE DUI simulator
  • Aetna HHL fire prevention and vehicle extrication demonstrations

Snacks and drinks will be available free of charge.

The UD Creamery truck has been invited to sell their legendary locally made ice cream.

The Newark PAL trailer will be there with games and activities for the kids.
