Officers Injured During Arrest of Newark Man

On March 9, 2020, at about 1845 hours, Newark Police were called to the Newark Free Library at 750 Library Avenue in reference to a disorderly male refusing to leave the premises.  Arriving officers contacted Nabil Abdallah, 31, of Newark.  Abdallah was reportedly making library patrons feel uncomfortable by following and taking pictures of them as they walked around the library.  Abdallah refused to leave the premises after having been advised multiple times by officers to leave.

When officers went to take Abdallah into custody, he began to struggle and kick at officers causing injury to officers.  Abdallah was eventually taken into custody.  He he was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries incurred as he resisted arrest.

During the struggle, one officer suffered a laceration for which no medical treatment was required.  Another officer suffered an injury to his hand for which he received medical treatment and was released.

Warrants were obtained from Justice of the Peace Court #11 charging Abdallah with the following offenses:

  • Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence
  • Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer (2 counts)
  • Harassment (2 counts)
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Criminal Trespass

Abdallah will be arrested upon his release from the hospital.
