Dover Man Arrested for Burglary and Theft From a Vehicle

On August 29, 2019, at about 0028 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to the unit block of Bassett Place for a report of a subject breaking into a vehicle.  Arriving officers found that the suspect had been detained by witnesses.  The suspect was identified as Erich D. Schiesser, 39, of Dover.

The investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle was outside of his residence when he observed an unknown male rummaging through the victim’s vehicle.  The vehicle was not locked at the time of the incident.  The victim made contact with the suspect and held him at the scene until police arrived.  Schiesser was found to be in possession of property stolen from this victim’s vehicle as well as property stolen from a separate burglary from a vehicle incident in early August.

Schiesser was taken into custody without incident and transported to Newark Police Headquarters.  He was charged with:

  • Burglary 3rd Degree
  • Theft Under $1500
  • Receiving Stolen Property Under $1500
  • Criminal Trespass Third Degree

Schiesser appeared by video before Justice of the Peace Court #2 in Rehoboth Beach and was released on his own recognizance.
