Update – Arrest Made – Original Post: Two Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges; Additional Suspect Sought

On July 12, 2019, Newark Officers located Kevon Gavin, 20, who was sought on various drug charges, at Glasgow Park in the 2000 block of Pulaski Highway.  As Gavin began to get into a vehicle, officers attempted to arrest him.  Gavin resisted arrest by flailing his arms and attempting to break free.  Gavin was eventually taken into custody and placed into a police vehicle.

While officers were dealing with other persons present at the scene, Gavin was able to exit the vehicle – still handcuffed – and started to run from the scene.  Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit with Gavin and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Gavin was charged with the following offenses for the original drug-related warrant:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (2 counts)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana
  • Possession of a Weapon with an Obliterated Serial Number
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree
  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Breach of Release (due to an active court order prohibiting him from being at the residence)

In addition to the above charges, Gavin was charged with Resisting Arrest and Escape Third Degree for his actions on July 12th.

Gavin appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle and was ordered held on a total of $101,000 secured bail.  Gavin’s custody was transferred to the Howard R Young Correctional Facility in Wilmington.
