Vehicle Crashes Into Building on East Main Street; Driver Charged With DUI

On Sunday, December 23, 2018, at about 0133 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to the McDonald’s Restaurant at 374 East Main Street for a report of a vehicle in the drive thru whose operator was possibly intoxicated.  Arriving officers found Adam Adair, 27, in his vehicle in the drive thru.  As officers began to speak with him, he was displaying signs and behavior consistent with intoxication.  Before officers could get him out of his vehicle, he fled down East Main Street at a high rate of speed.

Minutes later, Adair’s vehicle struck the building at 190 East Main Street.  Officers arrived at that location and took Adair into custody.  Adair, of Elkton, MD, was subsequently charged with DUI, Possession of Marijuana and additional traffic offenses.  He was released to appear in Newark Alderman’s Court at a later date.

The City of Newark Building Department responded to the scene to assess the damage to the building.  The structure of the building was deemed to be safe.
