Armed Residential Burglary on North Chapel Street

Newark Police are investigating an occupied residential burglary in the unit block of North Chapel Street that occurred during the daytime yesterday.  The suspect was armed with a handgun.

On Saturday December 22nd, at about 1616 hours, a 21 year-old male victim called to report that his residence had just been entered by a male armed with a handgun.  The victim reported that he was in his bedroom on the second floor of his residence.  He heard voices on the first floor of the residence.  He looked down the stairway of his residence and observed a male suspect with a handgun in his hand.

Upon seeing the victim, the male ran from the residence in an unknown direction.  After police arrival, the residence was checked and property was found to have been taken.  There was no damage found to the residence.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 20-25 years of age, braided hair and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.  The suspect displayed a handgun in his hand, however it was not pointed at the victim.  A second unknown suspect may have also been involved.

A Newark Police K-9 unit responded to the scene and checked the area with negative results.
