Police Investigate Armed Robbery of Pedestrian

On Thursday November 15, 2018, at about 2050 hours, a 21 year-old male was walking in the unit block of White Clay Drive in Newark.  A vehicle drove past him and stopped.  Three black males exited the vehicle and one of them displayed a baseball bat.  The victim was ordered to turn over property and he complied.  One of the suspects slapped and punched the victim in the head before the three suspects returned to the vehicle and fled on North College Avenue.

The victim returned to his residence and spoke with a friend.  The victim and his friend then left the residence and attempted to locate the suspects, while the victim called police.  The victim and his friend were able to locate the suspects and they confronted the suspects in an alleyway off of East Cleveland Avenue.  The suspects attempted to drive away and the friend, a 22 year-old male, jumped onto the suspect vehicle and fell off.  As the suspect vehicle fled, it drove over the friend’s leg and struck a parked vehicle.  The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing eastbound on East Cleveland Avenue.

As a result of this incident, the initial victim sustained a bruise on his head.  He did not require medical attention.  The friend sustained injury to his leg and was treated and released from an area hospital.

There is no further description available of the suspects or the vehicle.
