New Castle Woman Charged With Burglary

On May 24, 2024, at about 2102 hours, Newark Police responded to a residence in the 400-block of South Chapel  Street for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, a citizen pointed out a female outside the residence. The citizen advised the female had been inside the residence and did not belong there. The female was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Further investigation determined that the female, identified as Shantale Seeney, 39, of New Castle, had been previously advised not to be at the residence.  The citizen, who was watching the residence for the owner, observed Seeney in the residence and called 911. A search of Seeney located property belonging to the owner of the residence.

Seeney was transported to Newark Police headquarters where she was charged with Burglary Second Degree and Theft Under $1500.  Seeney appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $3,000 secured bail.  Seeney was turned over to the custody of the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in New Castle.

Traffic Alert – University of Delaware Graduation

University of Delaware graduation ceremonies between Thursday 5/23 and Saturday 5/25 will cause significant increased traffic around the City of Newark, especially in the area of the UD field house and football stadium.

On Thursday 5/23 and Friday 5/24, ceremonies will occur all day at the field house, Bob Carpenter Center and stadium, causing increased traffic and delays.

On Saturday 5/25, there will be significant traffic around the stadium starting as early as 6:00 am and lasting into the early afternoon. Delays may impact Interstate 95.

Avoid the area unless travel is necessary.
