Weekly Crime Report – 06/05/19

The following are cases of interest handled by the Newark Police Department between May 27th and June 2nd, 2019:

Theft from a Motor Vehicle:

  • On May 28 between 0225 hours and 0235 hours in the 400-block of Wollaston Avenue:  Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s vehicle and removed items from within the vehicle.  There was no forced entry into the vehicle.
  • Between May 28 at 2000 hours and May 29 at 0651 hours in the unit block of Townsend Road:  Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s vehicle and removed items from within the vehicle.
  • On May 29 between 0309 hours and 0315 hours in the 100-block of Manns Avenue:  Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s vehicle and removed items from within the vehicle.  The suspect was possibly a white male in his 20’s wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a backpack.
  • On May 31 between 0100 hours and 0700 hours in the unit block of South Wynwyd Road:  Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s vehicle and removed items from within the vehicle.
  • Between May 29 at 2300 hours and May 30 at 0600 hours in the 600-block of Lehigh Road:  Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s unsecured vehicle and removed items from within the vehicle.
  • On June 2 between 0730 and 0749 hours in the 200-block of E. Main Street: Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s vehicle and removed items from within the vehicle.

Shoplifting:

  • On May 31, at about 1303 hours, a male stole property from the Home Depot located at 1000 Suburban Drive and left without paying for it.  The suspect (pictured below) is described as a white male wearing camouflage shorts, black t-shirt and black and yellow sneakers.  The suspect possibly fled in a Mitsubishi SUV.

Two Arrested for Thefts From Vehicles

On June 2, 2019, Newark residents Rashaon Lane, 20 and Nathaniel Smith, 18, were arrested for (2) counts of Theft (one felony and one misdemeanor) and one count of Conspiracy 2nd Degree after an investigation into thefts from a vehicle in the 100-block of Sypherd Drive.  Both suspects appeared before a Justice of the Peace Court and were released on their own recognizance.
