The City of Newark is advising motorists of a road closure in the area of East Main Street starting at South Chapel Street.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

On April 18, 2025, at approximately 5:22 p.m., Newark Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle displaying a fictitious Pennsylvania registration.
During the stop, the driver provided officers with a fraudulent foreign driver’s license as identification. When questioned further, the driver fled the scene on foot. Officers pursued and apprehended the suspect following a brief foot chase.
Subsequent investigation identified the driver as Freddy Villanueva Alonso, 34, of Wilmington, Delaware. It was also determined that Villanueva Alonso was wanted by another law enforcement agency on an active warrant for Identity Theft and Forgery.
As a result of the incident, Villanueva Alonso was charged with the following offenses:
Villanueva Alonso was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #11 and issued a $9,950 cash bond. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of bond.
