Update #2 – Two Arrested – Newark Police Investigate Thefts of Multiple Vehicles
Following a nearly two month long investigation, Newark Police have arrested two men for their involvement in multiple burglaries, thefts of property and motor vehicles and subsequent unlawful use of payment cards. In late October, 2019, warrants were approved charging each with multiple offenses as listed below. Stolen property was sold to a retailer and stolen credit cards were used to buy merchandise. The suspects were identified based on surveillance video and other investigative means.
On October, 25, 2019, they were taken into custody after they were stopped on an unrelated incident at the Christiana Mall.
They were each charged with the following offenses for the stated incidents:
Dahmir Lewis, 21, of Newark, was charged with 17 offenses as follows:
- Burglary of a residence in the unit block of Benny Street between 09/19/19 and 09/20/19
- Burglary 2nd
- Conspiracy 3rd
- Theft Under $1500
- Selling Stolen Property Under $1500
- Burglary and theft of a vehicle in the 700-block of Wollaston Ave between 09/23/19 & 09/24/19
- Burglary 3rd
- Conspiracy 2nd
- Theft Under $1500 (2 counts)
- Unlawful Use of a Payment Card Under $1500
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle from the unit block of Benny Street between 09/21/19 and 09/22/19
- Theft Over $1500
- Conspiracy 2nd
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle from the 200-block of South Chapel Street between 09/23/19 and 09/24/19
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Theft Under $1500
- Unlawful Use of Payment Card Under $1500
- Conspiracy 3rd
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle from the unit block of Prospect Avenue on 09/28/19
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Conspiracy 2nd
Lewis appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $34,000 cash bail. Lewis was turned over to the custody of the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
Stephan Lloyd Jr., 23, of Middletown, was charged with 25 offenses as follows:
- Burglary of a residence in the unit block of Benny Street between 09/19/19 and 09/20/19

- Theft Under $1500
- Selling Stolen Property Under $1500
- Burglary and theft of a vehicle in the 700-block of Wollaston Ave between 09/23/19 & 09/24/19

- Unlawful Use of a Payment Card Under $1500 (4 counts)
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle from the 200-block of South Chapel Street between 09/23/19 and 09/24/19

- Theft Under $1500
- Unlawful Use of Payment Card Under $1500 (2 counts)
- Conspiracy 3rd
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle from the unit block of Prospect Avenue on 09/28/19
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Conspiracy 2nd
- Theft from a vehicle in the 100-block of Kristins Way between 09/06/19 and 09/07/19:
- Attempted Unlawful Use of a Payment Card Under $1500 (3 counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property Under $1500 (2 counts)
- Conspiracy 3rd
Lloyd appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $45,000 secured bail. Lloyd was turned over to the custody of the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.

Newark Police to Participate in the 18th National Take Back Initiative – Saturday October 26th
On Saturday, October 26th, 2019, Newark Police will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day initiative. Between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, members of the public may surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. The event will occur in the Newark Police Department lobby located at 220 South Main Street, Newark.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.
According to the DEA:
- Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse.
- Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.
- The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.
- The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends —and the home medicine cabinet.
- Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
The program is anonymous and members of the public surrendering substances will not be asked for their name. During the event, controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter medications will be collected. In addition, liquid products and creams in their containers will also be accepted. Sharps and syringes will NOT be accepted due to the potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens.
