Newark Police Hosts National Night Out – Tuesday August 4th

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The event brings residents, first responders, and community organizations together to help make our neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live and work.

Newark’s National Night Out celebration will take place on Academy Street between Main Street and Delaware Avenue from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The event provides members of the public with an opportunity to meet local first responders, learn more about the work they perform each day, and explore equipment and specialized units from participating agencies.

The Newark Police Department will feature:

• SWAT
• Crisis Negotiations Unit
• Animal Control Unit
• Traffic Unit motorcycles
• Communications Command Post
• Evidence Detection Unit
• Victim Services Unit
• Behavioral Health Unit
• K9 demonstration

Scheduled Demonstrations and Activities

Activities scheduled throughout the evening include:

• Newark Police Department and DNREC Police K9 demonstration
• Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company demonstration
• Games and activities for children
• Displays from participating agencies and specialized units

Mission BBQ and the Newark Police Department will provide complimentary food, snacks, and drinks while supplies last.

The University of Delaware Creamery Moo Mobile has also been invited to sell its legendary, locally made ice cream.
