City of Newark Memorial Day Parade Road Closures

The City of Newark will host its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The ceremony will take place near Memorial Hall on the University of Delaware Green at 1:30 PM. The ceremony will be followed by the parade, which begins at 2:00 PM.

Road closures will be instituted for the parade. East Main Street from Library Avenue to South College Avenue, Delaware Avenue from South Main Street to Academy Street, and South College Avenue from Sunset Road to East Main Street will all be closed beginning at 1:30 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026. It is expected that the roadways will be re-opened at 3:00 PM. Due to the parade and the road closures, heavier than normal traffic is expected in the area. Please seek alternate routes.
