Traffic Response Unit Conducts Proactive Enforcement at South Main Street and West Main Streets, issues 46 Citations

On Tuesday, April 14th, members of the Newark Police Traffic Response Unit conducted a directed enforcement detail at the intersection of South Main Street and West Main Street in response to ongoing traffic safety concerns.

Crash data indicates that distracted driving continues to be a contributing factor in a significant number of collisions in Newark. Additionally, the Department has received multiple complaints about drivers failing to yield the right-of-way at this location.

The detail lasted approximately two and a half hours. During that time, officers issued 46 citations for various traffic violations, including Driving While Using a Cell Phone, Failure to Yield, No Seatbelt, and Improper Window Tint.

The Newark Police Department will continue to conduct proactive enforcement to address hazardous driving behaviors and reduce crashes caused by distracted and inattentive driving.
