On Sunday, June 29, 2025, at approximately 1:03 a.m., Newark Police officers responded to a report of a physical altercation involving a firearm at a restaurant in the 800 block of South College Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers conducted an investigation and detained Deja Thompson, 28, of Wilmington, Delaware. Officers determined that Thompson became involved in an argument with another individual inside the restaurant and physically grabbed that person by the neck during the confrontation.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing Thompson in possession of a handgun, which she was observed waving in the direction of a crowd inside the establishment. Following the incident, officers learned that Thompson had hidden the firearm beneath a vehicle in the parking lot. The weapon was subsequently located and seized.
Thompson was taken into custody without further incident and charged with the following offenses:
Thompson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #11 and was given $70,000 cash bail and was issued a No Contact Order with the victim. She was committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Corrections at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.
