Man Arrested For Residential Burglary

On July 10, 2023, at about 0946 hours, Newark Police responded to a residence in the 100-block of Victoria Court for a report of a burglary.

The resident reported that they discovered property missing from the residence.  There was no evidence of forced entry to the residence.

While checking the area, an officer observed a male in possession of property stolen from the residence.  The male was taken into custody without incident.  He was identified as Xavier Varnes, 32.  Varnes does not have a permanent address.

Further investigation determined that Varnes and two other suspects entered the residence and stole property from inside the residence.  The two other suspects have not yet been identified.

Varnes was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Theft Under $1500

Varnes appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $3,250 secured bail.  Varnes was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
