On May 19, 2022, members of the Newark Police Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Paper Mill Road. The search warrant stemmed from an investigation into drug activity at the residence.
During the course of the search, officers located various drugs, including marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin and crack cocaine. In addition, officers seized more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition for various firearms,
At the time of the search, three were taken into custody at the residence: Francis Sullivan, 39, who lives at the residence that was searched, along with Ryan Latta, 45, of Hockessin and Kevin Karnai, 49, of Wilmington.
Sullivan was charged with:
Sullivan is prohibited by law from possessing firearms or ammunition for a firearm.
Sullivan appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $84,200 cash bail. Sullivan was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
Latta was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia and was released on his own recognizance.
Karnai was charged with possession of heroin, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance.
