Hockessin Man Charged With Fifth Offense DUI

On October 8, 2021, at about 0628 hours, Newark Police responded to the 900-block of Church Road for a disorderly person.  Upon arrival, officers were advised that the suspect fled in a vehicle.  Officers located the vehicle parked in a driveway with front end damage and the driver had fled the vehicle.

An investigation into the incident found that the vehicle had been operated by James Hudiburg, 48, of Hockessin, who was located a short distance away from the vehicle.  The vehicle was found to have struck a parked car and fled that scene before it was located by Newark Police.  Hudiburg was also found to have taken the vehicle from an acquaintance without the permission of that acquaintance.  Further, Hudiburg was court-ordered not to have contact with the acquaintance.

The investigation also found that Hudiburg was impaired by drugs.  He was arrested without incident and was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with:

  • Fifth Offense Driving Under the Influence of a Drug
  • Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Damage Collision
  • Failure to Report a Collision
  • Driving While Revoked
  • Breach of Release
  • Additional traffic offenses

Hudiburg appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $8,700 secured bail.  Hudiburg was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
