UPDATE – Crash Involving Occupied School Bus

On October 5, 2021, at about 0855 hours, Newark Charter School bus # 16, operated by a 36 year-old male, was pulling into the Newark Charter School’s Patriot Way campus. The driver fell asleep as he pulled into the campus and struck three parked cars, left the roadway and struck a pole.  The bus was occupied by 37 elementary and middle school students at the time of the crash.  Neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash.

Upon police arrival, a school nurse was treating some students who received minor injuries.  The driver was not injured.  A total of eighteen students were treated by the nurse for their minor injuries.  No student required transportation to a medical facility and the school notified parents of the incident.
