On August 10, 2021, at about 0042 hours, Newark Police were asked by police officers from Elkton, MD police to initiate a traffic stop of a vehicle being driven in Delaware by Robert Lee Johnson Jr., 30, of Elkton. Johnson was wanted for failure to appear on a violation of probation charge in Maryland.
Newark Police initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle on Library Avenue (SR 72) in the area of Farm Lane. Although the vehicle initially stopped for a brief moment, the vehicle then fled the stop and Newark Police engaged in a pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle was pursued into New Castle. Newark Police were assisted by Delaware State Police and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, New Castle County Police, Newport Police and New Castle City Police. The vehicle eluded pursuing units and was located crashed and abandoned in the rear of a residence on 13th Street in New Castle.
