On August 7, 2021, at about 2304 hours, Newark Police responded to the CSX railroad tracks, east of North College Avenue, for a report of a subject struck by a train. Officers located a 21 year-old male on the south side of the tracks suffering from serious injuries and began to render medical aid. The victim was treated at the scene by Aetna EMS and New Castle County paramedics and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The initial investigation found that the male victim was on the tracks for an unknown reason and was struck by a westbound CSX train about 200 yards east of the North College Avenue crossing.
North College Avenue was closed for about 3 hours while the incident was investigated.
Newark Police were assisted by the University of Delaware Police Department and CSX Police Department.
