Two Charged Following Drug Investigation

Over the past month, members of the Newark Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit have been investigating drug sales in Newark.

On May 12, 2021, two suspects, who were present to deliver drugs at the Super 8 Motel at 268 East Main Street in Newark, were taken into custody without incident.  During a search of the suspects, officers seized:

  • 279 bags of Heroin
  • 5 grams of Methamphetamine
  • 8 grams of Crack Cocaine

As a result of the investigation, Newark Police have charged Anthony Brown Jr., 23, and Cheron Smith Lum, 19, both of Elkton, MD, with the following offenses:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver Crack Cocaine
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver Heroin
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity (3 counts)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree

Both suspects appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video. Brown was ordered to be held in default of $21,000 cash bail.  He was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.  Smith Lum was released on $21,000 unsecured bail.
