Wilmington Man Charged After Driving Towards and Failure to Stop for Officer

On May 1, 2021, at about 1517 hours, two Newark Police Officers were conducting foot patrol on East Cleveland Avenue near Wilbur Street.  They observed a line of traffic traveling eastbound on East Cleveland Avenue.  A blue sedan was observed driving in the oncoming lane and over a double yellow line to pass the line of traffic.  One of the officers stepped into the roadway in an attempt to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle accelerated and the officer was able to avoid being struck by the vehicle.  Officers observed the license plate number of the vehicle and area police agencies were advised of the incident.  The officers were not injured.

A short time later, a Newport Police Officer observed the suspect vehicle pulling into the driveway of a Wilmington area residence.  The Newport officer contacted the driver of the vehicle and took him into custody after a brief struggle.

The suspect was identified as Kevin Jimenez, 24, of Wilmington.

Jimenez was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with:

  • By Newport Police Department:
    • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

  • By Newark Police Department:
