Newark Man Charged With Drug & Firearm Related Offenses

Beginning in May, 2020, Newark Police received tips about possible drug dealing activity at a residence on Donna Drive in Newark.  Members of the Newark Police Street Crimes Unit began to investigate the tips.

Following a two month investigation, a search warrant was executed at the Donna Drive residence on July 7, 2020.  During the search, officers located more than two and one half pounds of marijuana packaged for sale, including edibles, along with prescription pills.  In addition, officers located ammunition for a shotgun.

The resident, Cornelius Jones Jr, 25, was taken into custody without incident.  Jones is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.  This arrest was also a breach of a condition of release from a separate and unrelated case.

Jones was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana in a Tier 1 Quantity
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Breach of Release (2 counts)

Jones appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $23,400 cash bail.  Jones was turned over to the custody of the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
