Two Newark Juveniles Arrested for Attempted Burglary

On January 5, 2020, at about 2145 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress at Fresh, located at 800 Ogletown Road.  A witness reported seeing two subjects jump over a fence in the rear of the building and were reportedly trying to pry open the back door.

Responding officers stopped two juveniles on the railroad tracks a short distance from the business.

This business has a camera system that provides excellent quality interior and exterior views of the business.  The video showed the males entering the fenced area and then pulling on doors and attempting to pry open another door to the business.  A part of the fence was damaged as a result of this incident.

The juveniles were identified as 14 and 16 year-old males from Newark.  They were transported to Newark Police Headquarters where they were each charged with:

  • Attempted Burglary Third Degree
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Criminal Mischief Under $1000
  • Criminal Trespass Second Degree

They appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and were released to their parents on $4,500 unsecured bail to appear in New Castle County Family Court at a later date.
