Weekly Crime Report – January 30, 2019

The following are cases of interest handled by the Newark Police Department between January 19th and January 26th, 2019:

Burglaries
On January 19, 2019, a resident in the unit block of East Cleveland Avenue reported that unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s residence through the rear door and removed various property from within the residence. No damage was caused to enter the residence.  The victim reported that the incident occurred between 1630 and 1800 hours on that date.  Some interior doors to bedrooms within the residence were forced open and items were taken from within.  There are no known suspects in this incident.

On January 19, 2019, a resident in the 100 block of North College Avenue reported that unknown suspect(s) entered the residence between 1600 and 1700 hours.  Entry was gained through an unsecured front door.  Once inside, the suspect(s) kicked open bedroom doors and removed property from within the residence.  There are no known suspects in this incident.


Overdoses
Between January 21st and January 26th, Newark Police responded to three separate overdose incidents where victims had to be revived using Naloxone and/or CPR.

  1. On January 21, 2019, at 2114 hours, officers responded to the Baymont Inn at 630 South College Avenue for an overdose.  Responding officers found a 20 year-old female unconscious from heroin use.  Officers administered Naloxone and she regained consciousness.  The victim was transported to a local hospital by Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company of Newark.
  2.  On January 24, 2019, at 1523 hours, officers responded to the Rodeway Inn at 1120 South College Avenue for an overdose.  Responding officers found a 25 year-old male not breathing and without a pulse.  Officers began CPR and Naloxone was administered by New Castle County Paramedics.  The victim began breathing on his own and was transported to a local hospital by Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company of Newark.  Evidence of heroin use was found at the scene.
  3. On January 26, 2019, at 0205 hours, officers responded to an apartment in the 600 block of Lehigh Road for an overdose.  Responding officers found a 31 year-old female unconscious and not breathing.  Officers provided rescue breathing while administering Naloxone.  The victim regained consciousness and her care was transferred to Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company of Newark.
