Newport Youth Arrested for Burglary and Theft From a Vehicle; Additional Suspects Sought

On January 29, 2019, at about 0244 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Lynley Lane for a report of subjects pulling on door handles of vehicles.  Upon arrival, a responding Newark Officer encountered three subjects leaving the area.  Two of the suspects fled on foot and one was captured at the scene.  The suspects who fled were only described as two males.

The suspect caught at the scene was identified as 17 year-old Savion Whyte-Douglas of Newport, Delaware.  Whyte-Douglas was found in possession of property that had been taken from two different vehicles in the nearby Woods at Louviers neighborhood.  Neither of the vehicles entered had been damaged.

Newark Police were assisted at the scene by the University of Delaware Police Department and a K-9 Unit from the New Castle County Police Department.

Whyte-Douglas was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Conspiracy Second Degree – both felonies.  Additionally, he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor theft.  Whyte-Douglas appeared before New Castle County Family Court and was ordered held in default of $3,000 secured bail.
