Fire at Super 8 on East Main Street

On December 7, 2018, at about 2232 hours, a fire was reported in a guest room at the Super 8 located at 268 East Main Street.  Arriving officers found a fire in a second floor guest room and were able to evacuate the occupant of the room.  The fire, which had spread to the roof, was extinguished by Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company.

Officers successfully evacuated all occupants and the occupant of the room where the fire is believed to have begun was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Although officers initially detained one person, the cause of the fire is under investigation and no charges have been filed.

East Main Street, between Tyre Avenue and Newark Shopping Center, was closed for about 3 hours due to fire department activity and the resulting icy roadway.

The investigation of this incident has been turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office, as is standard protocol for fire investigations.

Further inquiries as to the investigation of this incident should be referred to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
