Multiple Felony DUI Arrests Over Past Month; NHTSA Funded Enforcement Continues

As the Labor Day holiday approaches, Newark PD continues to participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign sponsored by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

During this holiday period, there is typically an increase in drunk-driving deaths nationwide.  The Newark Police Department will have extra patrol officers working this weekend specifically to combat Driving Under the Influence (DUI) violations.

Over the past three weeks, the Newark Police Department has arrested eleven people for DUI, including four for felony DUI.  In Delaware, a DUI rises to a felony when the driver has two or more prior convictions for DUI anytime in their lifetime.  A felony DUI can be punishable by anywhere from 90 days to 15 years incarceration, plus driver’s license revocation and other penalties.

The following felony DUI arrests occurred this month:

  • On August 1, 2024, Joseph Ciabattoni, 42, of Wilmington, was stopped for traffic violations and subsequently charged with Third Offense DUI and other traffic offenses.  He was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $2,005 secured bail.
  • On August 8, 2024, Ronald Brown, 62, of Newark, was stopped for traffic violations and subsequently charged with Seventh Offense DUI and other traffic offenses.  He was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $20,003 cash bail.
  • On August 22, 2024, Daniel Krajewski, 49, of Hockession, was stopped for traffic violations and subsequently charged with Fourth Offense DUI, Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal and other traffic offenses.  He was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. DUI is a 100% preventable offense. Before drinking, plan a safe and sober ride home.  Use a rideshare service or call a friend.
