Wilmington Man Arrested on Gun Charge Related to 2021 Hotel Shooting

Newark Police Detectives have been investigating a shooting at a Newark hotel that occurred in 2021.  Detectives identified Abian Plenty, 25, of Wilmington as a person who was present during this shooting.  A warrant for Plenty was obtained charging him with one count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon after he was seen on video fleeing the scene with a firearm.

Plenty was a wanted fugitive since that warrant was obtained.   On 1/28/25 Plenty was located and arrested by members of the Newark Police Department.

Plenty was processed and subsequently arraigned by a Justice of the Peace Court # 2 judge, where he was given $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

Two Men Arrested: One Facing Gun and Drug Charges, Another on Drug Offenses

On January 10, 2025, at about 1520 hours, members of the Newark Police Department and New Castle County Police Mobile Enforcement Team attempted to apprehend a wanted person.   Officers observed Savion Whyte-Douglas, 23 of Wilmington, who was a passenger in a vehicle, and was known to be wanted.

Officers initiated a car stop and, Whyte-Douglas fled from the vehicle on foot.    After a brief chase, he was taken into custody without incident.   Whyte-Douglas was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and cocaine.   The handgun was later determined to be stolen from New Castle City.

Another passenger, who remained in the vehicle, Dontaye Lewis, 23 of Newark, was found to be in possession of heroin and psilocybin mushrooms.

Both were transported to Newark Police headquarters where they were charged.

Savion Whyte-Douglas was charged with:

  • Possession Of A Large Capacity Magazine During Commission Of A Felony
  • Possession Of A Firearm By Person Prohibited (2 counts)
  • Carrying A Concealed Deadly Weapon A Firearm
  • Receiving A Stolen Firearm
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession Of Cocaine
  • Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Additional warrants from the Newark Police Department and other police agencies
  • Delaware court capiases including a Violation of Probation

Whyte-Douglas appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $94,750.00 cash bail.

Dontaye Lewis was charged with:

  • Possession Of Heroin
  • Possession Of Psilocybin Mushrooms

Dontaye Lewis was summonsed and was released on his signature pending his appearance in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas.
