Claymont Woman Arrested for Stalking; Officer Injured After Father Interfered With Arrest

On February 16, 2019, at about 0937 hours, Newark Police went to an apartment in the 900 block of Cedar Tree Lane in Claymont to serve an active arrest warrant for Shanell Marieno.  The warrant stemmed from an incident involving Marieno and an employee of her former employer.  Marieno had been repeatedly harassing that employee, despite a No Contact Order issued previously by a Delaware court.

While two Newark Officers were at Marieno’s apartment to effect the arrest, her father, Christopher Marieno, arrived at the apartment and began to interfere with the officers’ attempts to arrest Shanell Marieno.  Christopher Marieno physically blocked officers’ attempts to arrest her.  After he would not cease from interfering, he was told he was under arrest.  Christopher Marieno then began to struggle with officers’ attempts to take him into custody.  During the struggle, one officer sustained a laceration to his hand for which he did not need medical treatment.  Officers received assistance from the New Castle County Police when Christopher Marieno began to resist arrest.

Christopher and Shanell Marieno were both taken into custody and transported back to Newark Police Headquarters.

Christopher Marieno, 56, of Claymont, was charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault Second Degree
  • Hindering Prosecution
  • Resisting Arrest

He appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle and was released on $3,500 unsecured bail.

Shanell Marieno, 24, of Claymont, was charged with the following offenses:

  • Stalking
  • Harassment
  • Breach of Release (2 counts)

She appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle and was released on $4,500 unsecured bail.
