Newark Police Announce the Promotion of Two Officers and Presentation of Awards

On February 19, 2019, the Newark Police held a ceremony to promote two officers and present awards to more than 30 officers and civilian employees, along with officers from other agencies and members of the public who made a difference over the past year.

The ceremony included remarks from City of Newark Mayor Polly Sierer, Newark Acting City Manager Thomas Coleman and Newark Police Chief Paul Tiernan.  The Honorable Kathy Jennings, Delaware Attorney General, was the keynote speaker.

The promoted officers were:

  • Corporal Darryl L. Saunders Jr. was promoted to the rank of Master Corporal
  • Master Corporal Joseph W. Conover Jr. was promoted to the rank of Sergeant

The Awards consisted of:

Purple Heart
For line-of-duty injuries

Nowinski Award
For meritorious service

Lifesaving Award
For a lifesaving act

Citation for Merit
For meritorious service less than a Nowinski Award

Unit Citation
For exemplary teamwork

DUI Enforcement Ribbon
Top three officers with the most DUI arrests

Letter of Commendation
For formal display of recognition or appreciation

 

 

Newark Police Announce Promotion & Awards Ceremony

On February 19, 2019, the Newark Police will hold a ceremony to recognize the promotions of two officers:

  • Master Corporal Joseph Conover to the rank of Sergeant
  • Corporal Darryl Saunders to the rank of Master Corporal

In addition, multiple officers from Newark Police, police officers from other agencies and civilians will all be recognized for various noteworthy acts over the past year.  Some of these acts include life saving, noteworthy arrests and acts that made a difference in the community.  Officers of the Year for 2018 will also be announced.

Mayor Polly Sierer, Acting City Manager Thomas Coleman and Chief Paul Tiernan will all provide welcoming remarks.  Attorney General Kathy Jennings will be the keynote speaker.
