On April 10, 2020, at about 1518 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to the TD Bank in the 200 block of East Delaware Avenue for a report of a male attempting to deposit fraudulent checks. Arriving officers located the suspect in the drive thru lane of the bank and contacted him. He was taken into custody without incident.
An investigation revealed that the suspect, Khalil Davis, 22, of Philadelphia, PA, attempted to deposit a fraudulent check into two separate accounts in a different person’s name. The suspect endorsed the checks in the fraudulent name. The investigation further revealed that the same suspect previously deposited additional fraudulent checks in different names on both March 11, 2020 and March 27, 2020 at the same bank.
Once Davis’ true identity was determined, it was confirmed that he was a Pennsylvania resident and traveled to Delaware to engage in this fraudulent transaction. This act of traveling to Delaware for a non-permitted purpose violates the current state of emergency order in Delaware.
Davis was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with the following offenses:
Davis appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was released on his own recognizance.
