California Woman Charged After Assault Involving a Knife

On May 14, 2020, at about 0315 hours, Newark Police responded to the Baymont Inn at 630 South College Avenue for a report of an assault involving a knife.  Arriving officers contacted a male victim who was suffering from a laceration caused by a knife.

The victim advised that he was in a hotel room with a female with whom he was an acquaintance.  The victim asked the female to leave the room and she refused.  An argument ensued and the female presented a knife and the male victim fled the room.  As he fled the room, he was cut by the knife.  The victim suffered a laceration to his arm which did not require medical attention.

The female was identified as Saline Chandler, 26, of San Jose, CA.  She was taken into custody at the scene without incident.  During a search incident to the arrest, a knife was located.  In addition, marijuana and paraphernalia were also located.  Chandler was transported to Newark Police headquarters where she was charged with:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Assault Second Degree
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Chandler appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $5,500 secured bail.  Chandler was released after bail was posted.

Six Charged With Violation of Gathering Ordinance

On May 13, 2020, at about 1725 hours, Newark Police responded to a residence in the unit block of Choate Street for a report of a loud party.  Arriving officers observed a large group of about 15 subjects in the front and side yards of the residence.  As officers approached the residence, some subjects fled through backyards and others were detained at the scene.

Officers charged six subjects with violating the Newark ordinance prohibiting gatherings of more than ten people.  All of the subjects were issued summonses at the scene and released to appear in court at a later date.
