Carjacking on Library Avenue

On July 3, 2023, at about 1529 hours, Newark Police responded to Library Avenue (SR 72) south of Wyoming Road for a report of a carjacking.  The victim reported that while traveling on Library Avenue, a black Dodge SUV pulled in front of him and stopped abruptly.  The victim’s vehicle struck the rear of the Dodge.  When the victim exited his vehicle to check the damage on his vehicle, he was approached by a suspect from the Dodge.  The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and ordered him to move away from the vehicle.  The suspect then got into the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a light green shirt and a mask.

The victim’s vehicle has since been recovered.

Shooting on Dunsmore Road

On July 2, 2023, at about 2314 hours, Newark Police responded to Whitechapel Drive and Aylesboro Road for a report of a vehicle crash.  At the same time, additional calls to 911 reported shots fired in the area.

Arriving officers found a vehicle occupied by 55 year-old male driver.  The driver suffered a gunshot wound to the back.  He was treated at the scene by Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company and New Castle County EMS paramedics.  He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Based upon evidence at the scene, it is believed that the victim was shot while in the street in the unit block of Dunsmore Road and then drove away from the scene, where he subsequently crashed.
