The Newark Police Department, along with its partners from the New Castle County Police Department and the University of Delaware Police Department, have been monitoring the weather forecasts for this weekend. Due to what is predicted to be significant amounts of rain and wind, we unfortunately must cancel the Faith & Blue Community BBQ, which was scheduled for October 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4: 00 PM at Handloff Park, 1000 Barksdale Road, Newark, DE 19711.
The Trading Card Contest event, which was scheduled in conjunction with the Faith & Blue Community BBQ, is being re-scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the City of Newark Municipal Building located at 220 South Main Street Newark, DE 19711. We are disappointed that the BBQ had to be canceled but please stay tuned to our social media pages and media releases for a new event being planned for November. We would like to thank all of our community shareholders and sponsors for their support, and we look forward to continuing our collaborations.

On Saturday October 25th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Newark Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will provide the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Controlled, non-controlled, and over-the-counter medications will be accepted.
Bring your medications for disposal to the Newark Police Department at 220 South Main Street in Newark. The disposal site cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps – only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous – no questions asked.
This event marks the DEA’s 29th nationwide event since its inception over 10 years ago. Over 18.5 million pounds of drugs have been collected since the program’s inception in 2010.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
According to the DEA:
Sharps and syringes will NOT be accepted due to the potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens. Vape pens and other e-cigarette devices will only be accepted after the batteries have been removed. Newark PD is not responsible for removing the batteries.
