Newark Police Arrest New Jersey Woman for Attempted Burglary and Stalking

On January 16, 2026, at approximately 3:53 pm, officers responded to the 500 block of Winterthur Lane for a report of a burglary in progress.  Upon arrival, officers located and apprehended Dominque Johnson, 31, of Newark at the residence.  It was determined that she attempted to gain entry to the residence after banging on the door by throwing an outdoor statue through a window.

Further investigation revealed the incident was part of an ongoing stalking case involving the victims that had originated in another jurisdiction, where Johnson exhibited similar behavior.

Johnson was charged with the following offenses:

  • Attempted Burglary – 1st Degree
  • Stalking (2 counts)
  • Criminal Mischief

Johnson was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and received $20,000 cash bail.   She was transported to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.

Newark Officers Arrest Two Men for Robbery

On January 4, 2026, at approximately 10:03 p.m., Newark Police officers were contacted by a victim who reported that he had been robbed earlier that evening in the 200 block of East Delaware Avenue at approximately 7:11 p.m.

The victim stated that while in the area, he was followed by two male suspects who subsequently approached him. One suspect removed the victim’s wallet from his person and took an undisclosed amount of cash, while the second suspect threatened the victim with bodily harm. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Newark Police officers conducted an investigation, which included reviewing surveillance footage from the area. The investigation yielded corroborating video evidence supporting the victim’s account.

Shortly thereafter, officers located the two suspects in the area of East Main Street. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident.

The suspects were identified as Lawrence Smith, 40, of Newark, and Carl White, 36, of Newark.

Both suspects were charged with the following offenses:

  • Robbery Second Degree
  • Conspiracy Second Degree

Both individuals were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11, with Smith receiving $3,000 secured bail and White receiving $4,000.00 secured bail.   Both defendants were subsequently committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
