Newark Police Arrest PA Man for Strangulation and Other Related Charges

On February 3, 2026, Newark Police began an investigation after the victim reported that she had been assaulted by Christian Womack, 25, of Pennsylvania, at a business located in the 600 block of South College Avenue.

During an argument, Womack grabbed the victim by the hair and neck and strangled her, causing difficulty breathing. The victim was later transported to an area hospital for treatment and was released with minor injuries.

Newark Police Patrol officers responded to Christiana Hospital to investigate the incident. During the investigation, the victim reported that Womack was also in possession of her vehicle. The victim told officers that she had informed Womack that he was not permitted to use the vehicle and had requested that he return it. Womack refused to return the vehicle despite multiple requests.

The victim also reported that, during a prior incident several days earlier, Womack repeatedly struck her, causing injuries that the investigating officer observed.

Womack then repeatedly called and sent multiple text messages to the victim, causing her alarm and distress.

As a result of the investigation, Newark Police obtained warrants charging Womack with the following offenses:

  • Strangulation
  • Assault Third Degree
  • Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
  • Harassment

On February 4, 2026, Womack was arrested in the vehicle by the Pennsylvania State Police and taken into their custody in Pennsylvania on additional charges from that agency.   He was committed to a PA detention facility and was later extradited back to Delaware for the active Newark Police warrant on June 8, 2026.

On that date, Womack was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was issued $13,000 cash bail on the warrant for the above charges. He was also issued $3,000 cash bail on an unrelated capias. The court issued a no-contact order with the victim and ordered that, if released on bail, Womack be placed on GPS monitoring.

Womack was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of bail.
