On December 20, 2025, at approximately 9:20 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Madison Drive for the report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who reported that a male suspect had knocked on his door. When the victim answered, the suspect claimed that a child living there had stolen his bicycle, referring to a blue Huffy bicycle located on the front deck of the residence. The victim denied the allegation and began to turn back into his home. At that point, the suspect lifted his sweatshirt, revealing the handle of a black handgun, and advised the victim that he was taking the bicycle.
The suspect then fled the scene in a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma.
Patrol officers collected video evidence from the victim, corroborating the incident, and conducted a canvas of the surrounding area. During the canvas, officers located a dark colored Toyota Tacoma parked behind a residence in the 100 block of Madison Drive. A male subject exited the residence and approached the vehicle. Officers detained the subject, identified as Justin Bacon, 34, of Newark.
Bacon was taken into custody and transported to NPD headquarters. The vehicle was towed to headquarters pending the execution of a search warrant. The stolen bicycle was recovered at the scene. As a result of the vehicle search, officers recovered two .22-caliber handguns.
Bacon was charged with the following offenses:
Bacon was arraigned and committed on $140,000 cash bail. He was subsequently transported to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
