Newark Police Investigate a Fatal Crash on Christina Parkway

At approximately 10:06 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Newark Police officers responded to the Christina Parkway, east of the Amtrak bridge, for a report of a head-on collision between two vehicles.   Initial callers reported that one of the involved vehicles had left the roadway and was in a wooded area with occupants trapped.

Upon arrival, officers located two heavily damaged vehicles, a sedan and an SUV. Personnel from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company, and New Castle County Paramedics provided medical treatment.  Emergency responders located three patients between the two vehicles.

It was determined that the SUV entered the oncoming lane of travel, and the collision occurred.   Two occupants of the sedan were found trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication.

Both occupants of the sedan were transported to a local hospital, via ambulance, where one was admitted for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.   The other occupant was discharged from the hospital after treatment for only minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital, via ambulance, and later succumbed to injuries.

The Newark Police Department’s Traffic Response Unit responded to the scene to investigate the crash.   The University of Delaware Police Department and DelDOT assisted in closing Christina Parkway to ensure scene safety. The roadway remained closed between Elkton Road and South College Avenue for approximately five hours overnight.

The Newark Police Traffic Response Unit is investigating this crash, which is ongoing.  The deceased driver’s name is being withheld pending family notifications.
