Newark Police Arrest Wilmington Man for Robbery and Strangulation

On November 7, 2025, at approximately 0132 hours, Newark Police officers responded to a business on the 1100 block of South College Avenue for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect, Jordan Maness, 24, of Wilmington, had confronted a subject in the parking lot and made statements indicating that he was going to retrieve a firearm. Maness then briefly left the immediate area, entered the building, and returned to the victim’s location. Maness subsequently assaulted the victim by punching him multiple times and strangling him. During the assault, Maness forcibly removed personal items from the victim before fleeing the area.   The victim refused medical treatment.

Officers obtained a detailed description of both the suspect and his vehicle. A short time later, responding officers located the vehicle fleeing the area of the incident. A traffic stop was conducted, and Maness was taken into custody without incident.

Maness was transported to Newark Police Headquarters and later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #2.

Maness was charged with the following offenses:

  • Robbery First Degree – Cause Physical Injury to a Person Not a Participant
  • Strangulation

Maness received $70,000 cash bail and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
